This arbor design is made from western red cedar and measures 22x24 at its widest
and longest sides.
|
It is supported by four 6x6 columns and beams are secured to the existing structure
with specialy made 1/4" thick steel brackets.
|
|
Each 24" on center 2x12 joist is inline with each beam
rather than resting on top. Each joist is notched to set on a 2x6
ledger board secured flush with the bottom of each beam.
|

|
Pressure blocking between each joist together with the ledger board secures each joist to the beam so that no
brackets are needed.
|
The longest beam would have to span over 21', therefor a specially made beam was made
from 6x12 timbers ripped to 3x12, than a 1/4" steel plate was sandwiched between each 3x12 to form a
flitch beam.

|
Each beam was bolted together with 3/8" galvanized bolts staggered every 12". The
pressure blocking between joist served to hide all the bolts securing flitch beams and wall anchors.
